The country’s largest party, the Center Democratic Union (CDU), opposed Switzerland’s accession to the REPO group, which is dedicated to searching for and freezing Russian assets, in a statement published on April 16.
The statement was issued in connection with the debate on the initiative by Green Party MP Franziska Reiser. As part of the parliament’s work program until 2027, the MP suggested that parliamentarians address the country’s cabinet of ministers with a proposal to join REPO as soon as possible.
The UDC decided to oppose this position. The party said joining REPO was inconsistent with its position on neutrality.
The SVP also stated that it does not support Bern joining the pan-European “Sky Shield” air defense system. The deputies believe that such an initiative would harm Switzerland’s sovereignty and would be another step towards the country’s accession to NATO.
Let us remember that on April 12 the UDC presented a referendum to the government. He proposed putting to a vote the question of lifting all sanctions, including anti-Russian ones.
