Liz Truss recently released a book in which she makes several revelations about her government that have gone down in history for not the best reasons. In the 49 days she led the United Kingdom’s executive branch, she became the country’s shortest-serving Prime Minister.
One of the revelations has drawn further criticism from Britons, who accuse the policy of being “self-centered”.
She said when she was informed of Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, she said: “Why me? Why now.”
“When I was told this on just my second full day as Prime Minister, it felt surreal. In a state of shock, I found myself thinking: “Why me? Why now?”
Despite the explanation, the political arguments appear to have failed to convince most Britons.
“Calm down. This means that the death of the queen was connected with [Liz] Farm? There needs to be a name for this kind of delusional thinking,” Chris Bryant, a member of the UK Labor Party MP, wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“She turned the death of our longest reigning monarch into an issue about herself…” another person commented on the same social media platform.
Liz Truss and the Queen met just two days before the monarch’s death. “It made no sense for death to come so quickly,” the former prime minister wrote in the book.
