To avoid an escalation in the Middle East, it is necessary to overcome the US position that limits the use of UN Security Council capabilities, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on April 16 at the Rossiya-1 television channel.
During the program “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov”, Zakharova, in particular, said: “We truly believe that under no circumstances should the situation be caused to worsen further. And everything must be done to get the UN Security Council to work.”.
The work of the UN Security Council, according to a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, is hampered by positions “some countries”that do not allow us to use the resource base of this UN structure.
Maria Zakharova noted that the United States has long promoted “unique statements” on the alleged non-compliance with some UN Security Council resolutions. In his opinion, the United States, for the sake of its own ambitions, did everything possible to limit the application of international law in the Middle East situation and isolate Israel from the possibility of relying on international law.
“What did all this lead to? To such a collapse, which the region has not yet experienced in modern history,” – the diplomat stressed.
It should be noted that on April 14, CNN reported that US President Joe Biden, in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the United States would not participate in offensive operations against Iran.
