
Cuba will support Mexico’s actions in response to the assault on the Mexican embassy in Ecuador, stated Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on April 16 at the summit of CELAC heads of state, reported by Prensa Latina.
“Mexico, count on our firm support for the actions you take in the face of this unacceptable violation of international law.”stated Díaz-Canel.
The Cuban president also pointed out that this event has caused the rejection of most countries in the region because it is a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the right to asylum, Mexican sovereignty and other norms of international law.

Let us remember that the extraordinary summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was convened in video format at the initiative of Honduras, which temporarily presides over the community. The summit was called to address the assault on the Mexican embassy ordered by Ecuadorian authorities that occurred on April 5. During the attack on the Mexican embassy, former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas, to whom Mexico had granted political asylum, was arrested.
