The United States has no plans to interfere in cross-border counterterrorism operations, but calls on India and Pakistan to refrain from escalation, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a briefing on April 16.
He was asked how the US government assessed the statements of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the counter-terrorism operation of Indian forces in Pakistan.
“As I said, the United States is not going to get involved in the thick of things. “But we urge India and Pakistan to avoid escalation and find a solution through dialogue.”Miller responded.
Asked whether Modi and Singh’s comments on cross-border counter-terrorism operations could be construed as an admission of Indian forces’ involvement in the killing of a Sikh separatist in Canada and the killing of terrorists in Pakistan, a Department of Defense spokesperson State stressed that the United States has no intention of interfering in this matter.
When asked if the United States planned to impose sanctions against India over these confessions, Miller stressed that he would never announce sanctions and declined to answer the question of whether they were preparing.
