This Wednesday, the decision was read out in a case in which seven defendants are accused of crimes such as kidnapping, human trafficking and criminal association. Five suspects accused of kidnapping a Portuguese man in his 50s were acquitted. However, they were found guilty of gang activity and, in some cases, drug trafficking and were sentenced to prison terms ranging from eight to 13 years.
The incident occurred after judicial police seized more than 200 kilograms of cocaine. Five of the accused traveled to Portugal to recover the value of the drugs from two other suspects. What they didn’t know was that they were on the radar of the authorities, who apprehended them shortly after. The other two suspects are citizens of Portugal and Brazil who were involved in the transportation of cocaine. The Portuguese was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
