The Embassy of the European Union (EU) in Mozambique announced this Thursday the allocation of five million euros for the cultural and creative industries sector in the country.
“This five million euro fund aims to support the development of the cultural sector in Mozambique through concrete actions and the involvement of artists as entrepreneurs,” said EU Ambassador to Mozambique Antonino Maggiore during the fund’s launch ceremony.
This is a project called “Cultiv’arte” which aims to strengthen Mozambique’s cultural sector by funding “cultural entrepreneurship” projects and upskilling people working in Mozambique’s cultural and creative industries.
“We believe that the ideas shared by artists are important for the development of the country,” stressed Antonino Maggiore, adding that the goal of the project is also to “help artists export their products to other markets.”
The project will be implemented over four years throughout the country by the Mozambican government in coordination with Expertise France, the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center and Idea Lab.
“Cultivarte is the materialization of our desire, the result of dialogue and efforts with cooperation partners who see and recognize the importance of developing culture,” said Mozambique’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Eldevina Materula. during the launch of the project.
