The “Wall of Memory” was created in the Bolsheignatovsky district as part of the “Immortal Regiment” campaign, the press service of the head of the Republic of Mordovia reported on April 18.
The action in the Bolsheignatovsky district of Mordovia, from where about 5 thousand people went to the front during the Great Patriotic War, has been taking place since 2015.
Photos of 662 frontline soldiers have already been published on the “Wall of Memory” and it continues to be replenished. The goal of the action is to preserve the memory of all participants in the Great Patriotic War.
“Our “Wall of Memory” is an opportunity to say “thank you” to those who defended the Fatherland on the battlefields, to those who worked in the rear, to our grandfathers and great-grandfathers,” said the head of the Bolsheignatovsky district, Tatyana Polozova. . .
Tatyana Polozova added that the Bolshagonatovsky district is the birthplace of the Heroes of the Soviet Union: Pavel Markelovich Kumanev, Alexander Vladimirovich Asmanov, Fedor Gerasimovich Shuneev, Peter Vasilievich Zherelev, Grigory Yakovlevich Yamushev, Vasily Nikiforovich Bakharev, as well as the head of full right of the Order of Slava Filipp Romanovich Spiridonov.
Of almost 5 thousand people who went to war from the Bolsheignatovsky district, most did not return home.
Let us remember that the “Immortal Regiment” action is a procession during which people carry photographs of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Victory Day is celebrated in Russia and other countries.
The “Immortal Regiment” is a non-state, apolitical and non-profit civil initiative. Participation in the promotion is voluntary. Anyone can take to the streets of a town on May 9 with a photograph or the name of a family member: an army and navy veteran, a partisan, an underground fighter, a Resistance fighter, an internal worker, a prisoner of a concentration camp, a survivor of the blockade, a child of war, to participate in the procession or to pay tribute to memory, carrying a banner with a portrait, name or photograph to the Eternal Flame or other memorial place. All citizens can participate in the action, regardless of religion, nationality, political and other opinions. The main objective of the action is to preserve in each family the personal memory of the generation of the Great Patriotic War.
The action “Immortal Regiment” was first organized on May 9, 2012 in Tomsk on the initiative of local journalists. Then more than six thousand people came out onto the main street of the city with almost two thousand photographs of the participants in the Great Patriotic War.
