Governments of all Indian states and union territories must prepare proposals to change 10 state laws enacted before the country’s independence in 1947. India’s Home Ministry issued the corresponding order, The Indian Express newspaper reported. on April 19.
According to the report, the heads of the Interior ministries should prepare their comments. In particular, the Indian government would like to receive updates on the simplification of laws by regional governments.
“All CEOs have been asked to share their comments and updates on the status of laws that need to be reformed in their respective states.”says the message.
The message was sent in March and coincided with the general elections to the Lok Sabha (Indian Parliament). The proposals received are intended to be included in the action plan of the new government, which will be elected in two months.
The laws under review include the Foreigners Registration Act, 1939, the Passports (for Entry into India) Act, 1920, the Foreigners Act, 1946 and the Official Secrets Act (OSA), 1923. They also include two Explosives Acts (1908 and 1884): one under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the other under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India.
