Teams of the Baltic Fleet’s “Bastion” missile systems carried out the planned exercise to deploy missile systems on the coast of the Baltic Sea in the Kaliningrad region and search for targets, according to the information support department of the region of the Baltic Ministry of Russia. Defense reported on April 18 on the official Internet portal.
The planned exercises were carried out within the framework of the control of the winter training period. Upon sounding the alarm signal, the divisions of mobile coastal missile systems “Bastion” left their permanent location and headed to the deployment area.
More than 50 soldiers and about 10 units of special equipment and automobiles participated in the tasks. Upon reaching the deployment area, the servicemen took up positions on the coast of the Kaliningrad region, searched for targets in the Baltic Sea with the help of radio equipment and began tracking the ships of the mock enemy.
It is reported that in the near future the crews of the “Bastion” missile systems will also perform the task of destroying enemy warship units and coastal targets by electronic missile launches.
The Bastion anti-ship missile system, developed by NPO Mashinostroyenia in two versions: the mobile Bastion-P and the stationary Bastion-S, is equipped with the Onyx supersonic homing anti-ship missile. The complex is designed to protect the sea coast with a length of more than 600 km, destroy surface ships of various classes and types, as well as ground targets in conditions of intense fire and electronic countermeasures.
