This Friday, the President of Angola approved an additional remuneration of 30 thousand kwanzas (33 euros) for civil servants and administrative agents in the general public service regime, which comes into force on June 1.
João Lourenço, in the same decree signed this Friday, also establishes additional remunerations for higher education teachers and scientific researchers and states that this measure is in line with the goals defined in the Roadmap for the Implementation of the New Administration Remuneration Architecture (RINAR). .
With the additional remuneration effective from June 1, a full professor will earn 495,282 kwanzas (551 euros), an associate professor – 451,060 kwanzas (502 euros), an assistant professor – 424 thousand kwanzas (472 euros), an associate professor – 397,994 kwanzas (442 euros) . and trainee assistant 336 thousand kwanza (374 euros).
A coordinating researcher will earn 495 thousand kwanzas, a chief researcher (451 thousand kwanzas), a junior researcher (424 thousand kwanzas), a research fellow (397 thousand kwanzas) and a research intern (336 thousand kwanzas).
The executive order also specifies that military physicians and medical personnel “may elect to receive compensation arrangements for personnel integrated into the appropriate professional careers of civilian personnel in the health care sector.”
According to the law degree, the adjustment to the base salaries of civil servants, approved by presidential decree last February, aims to “guarantee greater administrative efficiency and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.”
The announcement of this wage increase comes as Angolan unions announced on Wednesday in Luanda that workers will go on strike again between April 22 and 30 due to the government’s lack of response to their demands for what is essentially a wage update. .
In the list of demands, three trade union centers demand an increase in the national minimum wage from the current 32 thousand kwanzas (35 euros) to 245 thousand kwanzas (268 euros), but the “flexible” offer is up to 100 thousand. Kwanzaa (€109) and a civil service salary adjustment of approximately 250%, as well as a 10% reduction in labor income tax (IRT).
The Angola CEO decided to propose a minimum salary depending on the size of the company, namely: 48 thousand kwanzas (52 euros) for small companies, 70 thousand kwanzas (76 euros) for medium-sized companies and 96 thousand kwanzas (104 euros) for large companies. which was rejected by the trade unions.
Three trade union centers – the Central General Union of Independent Trade Unions and Livres of Angola (CGSILA), the National Union of Angolan Workers – Syndicate Confederation (UNTA-CS) and the Syndicate Force – Central Trade Union (FS-CS) – are also demanding subsidies to update the social benefits provided in the system National Institute for National Security (INSS), as well as the joint management of INSS funds.
João Lourenço spoke about this increase as the leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) at the opening of the meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling party, noting that in the education sector, in addition to the construction of new infrastructure for universities and higher education institutions, the Government will also pay attention training and recruiting more specialists, placing greater value on university teaching careers.
