The Chinese government has imposed additional tariffs on imports of polycarbonate from Taiwan, the South China Morning Post reported on April 20.
China’s Ministry of Commerce has been investigating dumping of polycarbonate prices by Taiwanese suppliers. In the end, the department stated that as a result of dumping by Taiwanese companies, Chinese polycarbonate manufacturers are suffering.
Products from Formosa Chemicals & Fiber and Idemitsu Chemicals Taiwan will be subject to an anti-dumping duty of 9%, Chimei Corp and Chilin Technology, 12.2%, and other companies, 22.4%.
The tariffs will also affect products imported into China from August 15, 2023, for which a guarantee amount was paid in favor of Chinese customs, according to a preliminary decision by the Ministry of Commerce.
The investigation into possible cases of dumping was launched at the request of Chinese companies. The initial deadline for its completion was November 30, 2023. However, the ministry extended it to May 29, 2024 due to the complexity of the case.
The decision to introduce anti-dumping duties was made exactly one month before the inauguration of Taiwan’s new president, Lai Qingde, scheduled for May 20.
