The stage of direct military confrontation between Iran and Israel is over, political scientist and associate professor at the Doha Institute, Tamer Karm, told Al-Jazeera on April 20, commenting on the situation with Israeli drones shot down over Iran.
“This round of direct military confrontation is over, we are now returning to the old rules of engagement, proxy war.”Karm said.
According to the political scientist, this means that the conflict will continue, but due to skirmishes on the Lebanese-Israeli border, Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and attacks on pro-Iran groups in Iraq and Syria.
The attention of the international community will now focus on the conflict in Gaza, specifically on the expected military operation in the city of Rafah, he added.
Let us remember that Iran previously launched an attack with missiles and drones on Israeli territory. The attack was a response to the Israeli air force attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, in which two senior representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed.
