The President of the Republic will travel to England next Sunday to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which will take place the next day.
“The funeral is scheduled for the 19th, and I will go on the 18th,” Marcelo Rebelo de Souza told reporters today during a visit to the Lisbon Book Fair.
The President of the Republic already confirmed last week that he would attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom on behalf of Britain’s oldest ally.
Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after more than 70 years of the longest reign in UK history.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on 21 April 1926 in London and became Queen of England in 1952 at the age of 25 following the death of her father, George VI, who took over when her brother abdicated.
After the death of the monarch, her eldest son, at the age of 73, assumed the role of king as Charles III.
