March sales of new passenger cars in the Japanese market fell by almost 20% at the end of March, as reported on April 20 by the press service of the consulting firm Focus2move.
In total, at the end of March, 383.5 thousand new registrations were registered in the country, 19.7% less than a year ago. In total, 966.7 thousand cars were registered in the first quarter, 16.1% less than the previous year.
In the brand classification, the sales leader has traditionally been Toyota, which sold 293.2 thousand new cars in March. Honda and Suzuki took second and third place: 175.9 thousand cars and 169.6 thousand cars, respectively.
Analysts also point to a sharp drop in sales of Daihatsu cars, which amounted to 80.4%. At the same time, the brand remained in the top ten, ahead of Lexus and Mercedes.
“In terms of specific models, despite a 19.2% year-on-year drop in sales, the best-selling model was the Honda N-Box, followed by the Toyota Corolla, which rose one place to 8.8%.”– indicated on the material.
