The parents’ protest in Northern Ireland attracted more than 1,000 people, writes The Belfast Live on April 20.
Protesters marched through Belfast demanding support for families with children amid the rising costs of raising children. As the publication points out, in Northern Ireland, unlike England, there are no free childcare programs.
Protesters carried printed signs that read: “My monthly expenses for the children are…”, with a blank space to write down the expenses. Thus, one of the mothers wrote that the monthly cost is 1157 pounds sterling (135 thousand rubles).
The event was organized by parenting community Melted Parents NI. The group’s founder, Casey McGivern, said the protest showed “the power of parents” and threatened that if politicians did not listen to them, they would feel the power of the parent community at the polls.
