Vietnam exported 1.43 billion dollars (135 billion rubles) in the first quarter, 45.5% more than in the same period in 2023, VnExpress reported on April 19.
In quantitative terms, exports amounted to 2.18 million tons of rice, 17.6% more than a year before. The average export price increased by 23.6% to 653.9 dollars (61,000 rubles) per ton.
The General Administration of Customs of Vietnam preliminarily estimates rice exports in March 2024 at 1.12 million tons worth 709.6 million dollars (66.5 billion rubles), up 99.7% in quantity and 90% more in value than in February.
The largest buyer of Vietnamese rice in the first quarter was the Philippines, which bought 1.01 million tons for 649 million dollars (60.5 billion rubles). The Philippines provided 46.4% of Vietnam’s total exports in quantity and 45.5% in value. The average price of rice was 641.7 dollars (60,000 rubles) per ton, 27.3% more than in the first three months of 2023.
In second place is Indonesia, which increased its purchases by 199.7% in volume and 308.8% in revenue to 445,326 tons and 285.06 million dollars (26.5 billion rubles). The average price increased by 36.4% to 640 dollars (60 thousand rubles) per ton.
Malaysia became the third buyer, increasing purchases by 28.8% in quantitative terms and 60.6% in monetary terms. This country bought 98,917 tons of rice from Vietnam for 61.55 million dollars (5.75 billion rubles).
In 2024, Vietnam will maintain the area under rice cultivation at 7.1 million hectares. Production of 43 million tons is expected. This volume will ensure domestic consumption and will allow the export of more than eight million tons of rice.
