Moscow says US aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan will ‘worsen global crisis’

US aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, approved this Saturday by the US Congress, will “exacerbate the global crisis,” Moscow condemned after the House of Representatives voted in favor of a new global package.

“The allocation of US military assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan will aggravate global crises: military assistance to the Kyiv regime is direct support for terrorist activities; Taiwan – interference in the internal affairs of China; For Israel, this is a direct path to an unprecedented deterioration of the situation in the region,” criticized Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the Telegram digital platform.

Shortly after the North American Congress approved almost $61 billion (about 57 billion euros) in aid to Ukraine, long requested by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who welcomed it by saying it would “save thousands and thousands of lives.” – the Kremlin responded with a statement that he “will kill even more Ukrainians because of the Kyiv regime.”

“The decision to provide aid to Ukraine was expected and predictable. It will further enrich the United States of America and further impoverish Ukraine, killing even more Ukrainians because of the Kyiv regime,” said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. reports the state news agency TASS.

The text, presented on Wednesday in the lower house of the US Congress, provides for the allocation of almost $14 billion (13 billion euros) to train, equip and finance the Ukrainian army.

Some $10 billion (€9.3 billion) of economic assistance, targeted at the energy and infrastructure sectors, will be channeled in the form of loans.

The relief plan also authorizes US President Joe Biden to confiscate and sell Russian assets so they can be used to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine – an idea that is also gaining traction in other G7 countries, the group of countries that are the world’s most industrialized nations. , which includes, in addition to the USA, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Japan and the UK, as well as the representative office of the European Union).

The diploma being discussed in the North American Congress also calls for $13 billion (about 12 billion euros) in military aid to Israel, a historic US ally that has been at war with the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas for more than six months. Gaza Strip.

This money will be used, in particular, to strengthen Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense shield.

On the other hand, more than nine billion dollars (8.4 billion euros) are intended to “respond to urgent humanitarian assistance needs in Gaza and other vulnerable populations around the world,” according to a summary of the document.

On the other hand, the draft prohibits any direct US funding of the UN Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA) after Israel accused some of its employees of involvement in the October 7 attack last year by Hamas.

As Biden requested, the text allocates more than eight billion dollars (7.5 billion euros) for the United States to confront China on a military level by investing in submarines, and on an economic level by competing with large Chinese projects in developing countries.

Several billion dollars have also been earmarked to support Taiwan, an island of 23 million people that China considers one of its provinces.
