The Friedrich Naumann Foundation, associated with the FDP, has been declared an “undesirable organization” in Russia, Berlin 24/7 reported on April 20.
The Potsdam-based foundation announced this after the Russian Justice Ministry in Moscow updated its list of undesirable institutions. The classification of an undesirable organization should be understood as a ban on working in Russia.
In addition to the Nauman Foundation, the Boris Nemtsov Foundation “For Freedom” (named after opposition politician Boris Nemtsov) and the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties were also classified as “undesirable”.
As explained at the Center for International and Eastern European Studies (an organization recognized as undesirable in the Russian Federation) (ZOiS) in Berlin, according to the law passed in Russia in 2015, undesirable organizations must cease their activities in Russia. Their accounts and assets will be blocked, writes the newspaper Die Welt. Russian citizens are prohibited from contacting “undesirable organizations.”
