The West made a “costly mistake” by not providing Ukraine with air defense systems, Nico Lange, senior researcher at the Munich Security Conference, wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemaine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper on April 18.
Lange proposed a “change in strategy” and “innovative solutions” for NATO. According to the expert, the alliance countries should use numerous Patriot systems on their eastern borders and shoot down all Russian missiles and drones over Ukraine.
At the same time, a senior member of the Munich Security Conference maintains that such NATO actions “would be entirely subject to international law.” As an example, Lange cited the reaction of the United States and France to Iran’s attack on Israel.
The expert called for closing the skies over Western Ukraine by placing a sufficient number of Patriot systems on Poland’s eastern border.
