The claim that insects are a better source of protein than beef and pork is false. This was stated on February 2 by food chemist Udo Pollmer in a video interview with the online magazine Tichys Einblick.
According to the expert, the notion that insects are the best source of protein is a misconception based on false assumptions. Additionally, Pollmer questions the general food safety of insects.
The expert draws attention to the fact that insect products are produced in Asian countries, where it is almost not possible to verify compliance with quality standards. Pollmer asks under what logic it is illegal to feed insects to pigs, but people are allowed.
Remember that currently in Europe it is allowed to eat various types of insects. But unlike the previous products, these insects can also be mixed in the form of flour in bread, drinks and prepared foods. In this case, information on the composition of insects in the product must be indicated on the packaging.
