The president of the Estoril SAD, Ignacio Beristain, this Sunday complained about the clashes between Flavian fans and Canarinhos players in the match of the 30th round of the I Football League, saying that he did not accept the “advantage” given to Desportivo de Chávez.
“Unfortunately, we are not here to talk about a football match. Unfortunately, [fazemos esta declaração] for what happened at the end of the game, [quando] the fans rushed onto the field and attacked our players on the field,” began Ignacio Beristain in a statement made to journalists after the match between Desportivo de Chavez and Estoril Praia (2-2).
The match of the 30th round of the main level of national football was marked by a pitch invasion and aggression between Tras os Montes fans and the line team players during the compensation period.
After long minutes of stoppage and two sendings off, when Estoril players Marcelo Carne and Pedro Alvaro received a straight red card, the match resumed despite the visitors asking the refereeing team to suspend the match.
“Our players, defending themselves from aggression, were sent off by the referee. All of us who were here saw that there were no conditions for [continuar] In the game, regular time had already ended, the players of the Estoril Praia team were attacked on the field, so we asked the referee to suspend the game, but, as you saw, it was decided to continue the game [contexto] where football could not be played and whoever was attacked suffered damage,” said the man in charge of Canarinho.
For all these reasons, Ignacio Beristain reiterated that he could not accept the decision of referee Nuno Almeida, saying that Desportivo de Chaves benefited from this situation.
“Today, whoever attacked in Chavez gained an advantage. We are sports people, we always, always accept the results, we know how to win and we know how to lose. Today I can’t ask fans, players [que aceitem]“Estoril Praia cannot come to terms with what happened,” he concluded.
Six fans were arrested after the clashes, according to a Chavez Public Security Police (PSP) source.
The Desportivo de Chaves SAD and the management of the Tras-os-Montes club also expressed regret and condemned the clashes that occurred in the game with Estoril Praia in the 30th round of the Portuguese Football League, blaming Marcelo Carne for the incident.
“Desportivo de Chavez and the corresponding SAD deeply regret the events that occurred during stoppage time of the match between Desportivo de Chavez and Estoril Praia,” read a joint statement published on the club’s social networks.
Trás-os-Montes said they were “apologists for the spirit of fair play in sport and in life”, condemning the clashes between Flavian fans and Estoril players.
Those responsible believe that the cause of these provocations was Marcelo Carne, the visiting team’s goalkeeper, who was sent off with a straight red card after insults that occurred after entering the field.
