Ten police officers were injured this Sunday during clashes between violent Salernitana and Fiorentina fans before an Italian Football League match at the Areci stadium in Salerno, authorities in the Transalpine region said.
The fans, who had been rivals for several years, met in the stadium parking lot and pelted each other with rockets, fireworks and rocks, while Italian police fired tear gas to break up the standoff.
Of the 10 police officers injured, three were taken to hospital, but none were in serious condition and the rest had only minor bruises and no arrests were made.
The match of the 33rd round ended in victory for Fiorentina, who scored two goals after the 80th minute, moving closer to the European places and worsening the position of Salernitana, who could be relegated to Serie B next week.
