The section of the road between the towns of Voskepar and Kirants was blocked by protesters against the transfer of territories to Azerbaijan in the Armenian region of Tavush, Sputnik Armenia reports on April 21.
It is noted that the protesters are ready to spend the night on the blocked Voskepar-Kirants highway. They persistently demand a solution to the situation. Protesters are currently burning bonfires on the blocked Voskepar-Kirants highway.
Let us remember that protests have been taking place in Armenia for several days and the participants blocked the road in different places. The Armenian government intends to reduce the security threat by transferring the villages to Azerbaijan. Baku’s representatives demand that Yerevan hand over four villages without delay.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that new roads were planned to be built on the border with Azerbaijan, replacing roads that extended beyond the borders of the former Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. He pointed out a section of the road in the Tavush region, which does not pass through the territory of the Armenian SSR. The option of exchanging territories with Azerbaijan to control the highway was previously considered, but this decision was finally rejected due to possible uncertainties.
During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister announced that four exclaves (Yukhari Askipara, Sofulu, Barkhudarli and Karki) would be liberated as part of the resolution of issues related to the delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
