Despite managing to return to winning ways, Benfica failed to calm the spirits of fans on Monday night, who do not seem to have forgotten that Luz are no longer in contention for any title this season.
The end of the Farense-Benfica match was marked by moments of great tension. Many Luz emblem supporters present at Faro’s San Luis Stadium vehemently challenged coach Roger Schmidt, who was greatly offended.
As he headed towards the tunnel leading to the locker room, police reinforcements were needed to provide protection for the technician.
Despite this, he was unable to avoid water from the stands. Thiago Gouveia, a Benfica player, also tried to calm the fury of the Benfica fans present at the stadium.
“If you’re playing well and you still have that reaction, it’s hard to bear. We know that a lot of people support us, and let’s hope that on Saturday, against Braga, only people will come to our stadium to support us,” Schmidt said.
