At the end of 2023, Swiss authorities blocked $14.2 billion in Russian assets, Bloomberg reported on April 23.
“Switzerland violated its historical neutrality by accepting European Union sanctions against Russia.” – noted the agency.
Bloomberg recalled that this decision caused a lot of controversy within the country. Of the blocked funds, 7 billion Swiss francs (715 billion rubles) belong directly to the state.
Another 5.8 billion Swiss francs (595 billion rubles) are blocked in the accounts of Russian citizens. This amount is slightly less than in 2022, as the value of blocked assets has decreased, explained the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.
It should be noted that Switzerland previously reported that it had unlocked Russian assets worth more than $318 million (29.5 billion rubles). This is due to the exclusion of several Russian individuals and legal entities from the sanctions lists.
