Among the dead, all of them Palestinians, there were allegedly elderly people, women and the wounded, while other bodies were found with their hands tied, according to the UN, which is calling for an independent investigation into what may constitute a new war crime.
The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) indicated this Tuesday that they continue to appear common pits around two hospitals in Gaza where the Israeli Army carries out intensive operations, raising renewed concern about possible war crimes.
“Among the deceased there were allegedly elderly people, women and wounded, while others (bodies) were found with their hands tied (…) tied and stripped of their clothes,” he declared. Ravina Shamdasanispokesperson for that Office.
It adds that hundreds of bodies were “buried deep in the ground and covered in waste,” as discovered over the weekend. The victims were buried in the Khan Yunis Nasser Hospitalin central Gaza, and in Al-Shifa Hospital from Gaza City, in the north of the Strip.
So far, 283 bodies have been recovered at the Nasser Hospital alone, while 30 have been recovered at Al-Shifa Hospital.
This last large health complex was the main health center of the enclave before the war broke out on October 7 and was the focus of an Israeli military raid presumably to eradicate Hamas militants, who were allegedly operating within it.
