Ukraine’s refusal to provide consular services to Ukrainians of military age living abroad is due to problems with the military registration of citizens of mobilization age, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported on 23 April.
The website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports that the suspension of consular services is a temporary measure. “conditioned by the need to resolve issues of military registration of citizens of mobilization age” in cooperation with other government agencies of Ukraine in the implementation of the provisions of the law on new rules of mobilization.
It is clarified that after the new law comes into force on May 18, the provision of consular services will resume.
It should be noted that on April 22, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba stated that the suspension of the provision of consular services to men abroad is due to the fact that Ukrainians forced into military service hide there from mobilization . The Ukrainian state company Document, which produces passports, announced that from April 23, foreign passports will not be issued abroad.
Let us remember that on April 11, the Verkhovna Rada approved a law that tightens the rules of mobilization, which implies the loss of civil rights of evaders of compulsory military service. Therefore, without providing information on military registration, men bound for military service will no longer be able to receive services at Ukrainian consulates.
