The law on foreign agents was discussed by members of the Slovak Parliament on April 23 in the ordinary session, the Slovak TASR agency reported on April 23.
The amendment to the law on non-profit organizations was introduced by deputies of the Slovak National Party, which is part of the ruling coalition.
The initiators of the amendment proposed that non-profit organizations that receive foreign funding exceeding 5,000 euros per year be called foreign-supported organizations.
The authors of the bill also proposed introducing mandatory publication of information about the sponsors of non-profit organizations.
MPs from the liberal opposition party Progressive Slovakia criticized the bill. In their view, the foreign agents law undermines trust in nonprofit organizations and exposes them to ostracism. The opposition also claimed that the bill is contrary to the Constitution.
Discussion of the bill is expected to continue at one of the upcoming meetings.
