The hope that the social network TikTok will change ownership and continue operating in the United States was expressed by the head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner, on April 23 before lawmakers, Reuters reports.
Warner defended the law, which would give TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, about nine months to sell its U.S. operations or face a ban. According to the senator, lawmakers know that 170 million Americans use the short video app, and it is especially popular among young people.
“I want to say to these young Americans: we hear your concerns and we hope that TikTok continues to operate under new ownership, American or otherwise… from the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, France. It’s just that the enemy should no longer control it.”Warner said.
