A monument to the sisters of mercy will appear in the Leningrad region, the St. Petersburg teacher Besik Solomonshvili told the St. Petersburg TV channel on February 3.
They want to dedicate the sculpture to the sisters of mercy, who during the Great Patriotic War worked at the front, rescuing the wounded on the battlefield. In those years, their number was about 20,000. However, their work during the war years was immortalized in only one memorial.
“If it is not enough, then it must be established for sure. I think a monument should be erected to these people. They were angels in front”– said the sculptor Besik Solomonashvili, who created the design of the monument.
The future monument will be about 3.5 meters long. It is planned to be installed in Toksovo, since six hospitals and medical battalions were located on this place during the Great Patriotic War.
