A miscarriage of justice in Spain leaves at large a cartel leader who threatened to kidnap a Dutch heiress.

Spanish justice accidentally frees one of the Netherlands’ biggest drug traffickers Kadena SER.

Karim Bujarichan, the leader of Mocro Maffia, was arrested in southern Spain in January after a five-year investigation into money laundering.

Following the arrest, the Netherlands filed an extradition request, which was given the green light by the Audiencoa Nacional, Spain’s national legal body, but rejected by the Malaga court, which has detention jurisdiction.

The provincial court said Buyahrichan should have been the first to answer for the money laundering crimes he was accused of in Spain. The Dutch once again demanded his extradition, recalling the rich history of the criminal, but to no avail.

However, according to Kadena SERThe national audience, while authorizing the extradition warrant, forgot to issue an arrest warrant. Buyahrichan, who appeared in court for money laundering, posted bail of 50 thousand euros and is now at large. At the moment his whereabouts are unknown.

However, Spanish authorities believe they can find him again.

Spain’s Justice Minister Felix Bolaños acknowledged the “escape” was “disturbing news” but insisted security forces would “bring this man to justice as quickly as possible.”

Mocro Maffia is one of the largest drug cartels in Europe. It is believed that over the past 15 years the group has already transported drugs worth several million euros from South America to the “old continent”.

The cartel has also been linked to threats against Princess Amalia, heir to the Dutch throne. Last week they reported that kidnapping threats had forced the monarch to move to Spain.

Bujarichan was arrested along with five other men on charges of money laundering through the purchase of 172 properties in Spain worth around 50 million euros.

The 46-year-old man had been wanted by Interpol for more than five years.

Buyahrichan is believed to have taken over the drug trafficking empire from his brother, who died in 2014. Since his arrest, clashes between cartels, which had already resulted in several deaths, have subsided.
