Google will invest 600 million euros (59.5 billion rubles) in the construction of a new data center in Groningen, the Netherlands. This is stated in the company’s press release, reported by NL Times on April 24.
It should be noted that this will be the company’s fourth data center in the Netherlands. Google also reported that at the moment the volume of investment projects in the Netherlands is approximately 3.8 billion euros (375 billion rubles).
The company said the new data center is necessary to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services.
“Organizations and governments in the Netherlands are increasingly moving to the cloud. In the last five years, the use of cloud computing in the Netherlands has almost doubled.”the company said in a press release.
In early 2024, Google announced that its data centers would be powered by wind farms near the North Sea. The company signed an agreement for the implementation of this energy project with Shell and Eneco.
