Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva achieved a resounding victory over American Taylor Townsend on April 24 in the first round of the WTA-1000 tournament in Madrid.
Andreeva, world number 43, lost to Townsend (58th place in the WTA ranking) in the first set by 4:6, but then played strongly in the next two matches and achieved victory by 6:1, 7:5. The match lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes.
During the match, Andreeva hit three aces, made three errors on the second serve and won six games on her opponent’s serve (11 break points in total). Townsend recorded four serves, two double faults and four break points converted out of nine won.
Mirra Andreeva will compete with Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic for access to the third round.
The WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid takes place on clay courts from April 23 to May 4. The prize fund of the competition amounts to more than 7.8 million euros. The current champion of the contest is Arina Sabalenko from Belarus.
