China’s surprisingly rapid development in space is a “cause for concern” for the US Space Force, US Space Command chief Gen. Stephen Whiting said at a briefing for reporters on the 24th. April, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post reported.
Whiting said China has tripled the number of reconnaissance satellites in Earth orbit over the past six years, while increasing the lethality, accuracy and range of those satellites.
“The People’s Republic of China is moving through space at breakneck speed and is rapidly developing a range of anti-space weapons to threaten our space capabilities.”Whiting said during a visit to South Korea and Japan.
“They are also using space to make their ground forces, their Army, their Navy, their Marine Corps and their Air Force more precise, more lethal and longer range.”– he added.
This is a cause for concern and something the United States is watching very closely, he said.
