Two Dutch organizations are suing Apple for damages because the American technology company deliberately slowed down these and other models over time, the NL Times reported on April 24.
Consumers who purchased an iPhone 6, 7 or SE are entitled to compensation due to Apple’s actions, said ConsumentenClaim and the Aequitas Belangenbehartiging Foundation.
It should be noted that Apple released several updates for the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and the first generation SE models in 2017 and 2018. These updates lowered the quality level of the smartphones and were aimed at hide the main defects of the batteries used. Because of this, iPhones started running slower than before the update.
According to the organizations, because Apple hid this information, users suffered harm from slower speeds, worse functionality, and lower quality iPhones. Many consumers felt they had no choice but to replace the battery or iPhone.
The director of ConsumentenClaim, Steph Smith, holds Apple responsible and demands compensation of 100 euros (9.9 thousand rubles) for the device. People who replaced their iPhones due to unfair practices should receive higher compensation.
Apple settled this case in the United States for $613 million (56.5 billion rubles). The amount of damage amounted to 92 dollars (8.5 thousand rubles) for each client who joined the claim.
Recall that in France a court sentenced Apple to impose a fine of 25 million euros (2.45 billion rubles), and a court in Italy confirmed a fine of 10 million euros (990 million rubles). There are massive complaints against Apple in other countries as well.
