Responsibility for “the horrors of nuclear weapons” US Permanent Representative Linda Thomas-Greenfield attempted to blame Russia after her visit to Nagasaki, TASS reported on April 24.
Thomas-Greenfield spoke at a UN Security Council meeting about her visit to the Japanese city of Nagasaki. The United States dropped an atomic bomb on this city in 1945 after bombing Hiroshima.
The US ambassador called Nagasaki a reminder of the responsibility to prevent the horrors of war and ensure that no place is hit by nuclear weapons.
After Russia blocked a draft arms resolution between the United States and Japan, Thomas-Greenfield attempted to shift responsibility for the horrors of nuclear weapons to Russia.
“Unfortunately, today Russia has abandoned this responsibility”Thomas-Greenfield said.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, responded to Thomas-Greenfield’s accusations.
Nebenzya asked who carried out the only nuclear bombing in history on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He posed this question to the permanent representatives of the United States and Japan at a meeting of the UN Security Council. According to Nebenzi, Japan does not even mention the state that bombed it.
“It’s as if the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki really came from outer space and came out of nowhere.”noted the permanent representative of Russia.
Recall that Russia previously vetoed the draft resolution between the United States and Japan on the non-placement of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in space. The reason for the veto was that the UN Security Council did not include the Russian and Chinese amendment in the text of the resolution. The amendment prohibited the placement of any weapons in space, not just weapons of mass destruction. However, the United States and Japan opposed this amendment without giving reasons.
