The world’s first drug for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis has been registered with the Russian Ministry of Health, the ministry’s press service reported on April 25.
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has registered the world’s first drug for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, which has demonstrated a high level of effectiveness and safety.
The drug was developed by scientists from the Russian National Research Medical University (RNMU) named after NI Pirogov, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry named after academicians MM Shemyakin and Yu A. Ovchinnikov RAS together with the company Russian pharmaceutical company BIOCAD. The World Health Organization has assigned the medicine the international common name seniprutug.
“The drug developed allows us to destroy pathological T lymphocytes that attack the body’s own cells. “Initial clinical studies have confirmed that the progression of the disease is stopped without reducing the activity of the immune system of the body as a whole.”the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
After registering the medicine, the manufacturing company can begin its industrial production.
