Yakutia companies extracted 73 tons of silver in three months of this year, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Geology of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) reported on April 23.
The record figure was achieved thanks to the start of exploitation of the Prognoz field, which is being developed by the Polymetal company.
“Thanks to the efforts of the companies where our local guys work, the republic has set a new record. We have increased silver production FIVE TIMES. I would like to sincerely thank the Yakut people who strengthen their native region. Today more than 100 thousand people work in the industry and each one of them is valuable in production.”– stated the Minister of Industry and Geology of Yakutia, Maxim Tereshchenko.
Last year, the Verkhne-Menkeche enrichment plant in the Tomponsky district was opened. Minister Maxim Tereshchenko declared that this was the beginning of a new industry in the republic: the extraction and enrichment of polymetallic minerals.
The factory will produce lead, silver and zinc concentrate. The reserves of Verkhne-Menkeche in the C1+C2 category are: 2,237 thousand tons of silver, 236 tons of lead and 245 tons of zinc.
Yakutia has significant export potential and ranks first in Russia in terms of mineral reserves and diversity.
In the republic, 1,823 deposits of 58 types of mineral raw materials have been explored. The most important are: diamonds, gold, silver, rare earth metals, cassiterites (78.62% tin), antimony, uranium, coal, oil, gas, gems and mammoth ivory. In addition, Yakutia catches the largest amount of delicious northern fish and breeds a unique breed of cattle, immune to leukemia and whose marbled meat can be obtained by feeding it primitively with hay.
It should be noted that more than 16 thousand potential deposits remain poorly studied.
