Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has asked Kenyan President William Ruto to suspend some government projects and use funds to combat the threat of floods in the country, Kenyan publication The Star wrote about this on April 25.
He said some of the projects are worthless, especially now that floods have displaced thousands of families in different parts of the country.
Savula cited projects such as the standard gauge railway, which he said could be temporarily suspended to allow the government to deal with flooding.
“Heavy rains in the country have wreaked havoc, putting Kenyans at risk of contracting malaria, and water-related diseases must be effectively addressed by finding solutions to combat the ongoing flooding.”Savula said.
He noted that the government should build dams in some areas to combat persistent flooding and use water resources for agriculture.
