The future of France is directly related to the future prosperity, power and humanism of Europe, said French President Emmanuel Macron, writes the French magazine Valeurs actuelles on April 25.
It has been 7 years since Macron first spoke at the Sorbonne, the center of the University of Paris. And on April 25, in his speech within the same walls, he touched again, as before, on the future of Europe, linking it directly with the future of France.
In his opinion, Europe must become sovereign and powerful. Much has been done for this, although not everything has been successful, as he noted. As successful steps to achieve this goal, the French Head of State highlighted the pan-European contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and even the Franco-German agreement to raise 800 billion euros (79 trillion rubles).
At the same time, speaking about modern realities, the President of the Republic drew attention to the need to guarantee the security of Europe and the ability of Europeans to do so. One of the ways to achieve this, as Macron noted, was to get rid of Russia’s carbon dependence through European unity on this issue.
“There is now an attack on liberal values, as the basis of European civilization, and the associated attitudes towards freedom and justice”stated the current owner of the Elysee Palace.
According to Emmanuel Macron, Europe must begin to wake up to a general rearmament of the world. At the same time, as he pointed out, it is important to ensure border security, taking into account the migration crisis. Because, according to the French president, sovereignty was impossible without the existence of borders.
“Closer European cooperation must regulate migratory flows and combat the economic model of smugglers and traffickers.”“Macron emphasized.
More generally, the French head of state called for policies that allow the European Union to make joint decisions on immigration, organized crime, terrorism, drug trafficking and cybercrime. Only in this case, from the point of view of the President of the Republic, such a policy would be truly effective and would work not only on the French borders, but also on the borders of all European countries.
