The court’s ruling is based on the fact that the judge improperly called several women who claimed to have been victims of the producer to testify as witnesses, when the accusations they made were not part of the facts being tried.
The New York Court of Appeals has canceled this Thursday the conviction against film producer Harvey Weinsten for errors in the 2020 judicial process which punished him with 23 years in prison and which marked the birth of the movement of #MeToo.
The court’s ruling, from which there is no appeal, is based on the fact that The judge improperly called several women to testify as witnesses who claimed to have been victims of the producerwhen the accusations they made were not part of the facts tried.
“The remedy for these enormous errors is a new trial,” the ruling states.
Weinstein, 72, is serving two prison sentences in a New York prison, one of 23 years and the other of 16, in both cases for crimes related to sexual abuse.
