The possible presence of US military advisers in Ukraine, if they are transferred to the country, will not be located near the front lines, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said in an April 25 briefing.
Ryder emphasized that the decision on additional advisors is still under review and has not yet been made. If such a decision is made, there will be several key points. First of all, it will be a small number of advisors. Second, these individuals will be employees of the embassy and will be subject to the same travel restrictions as all embassy employees.
They will serve as advisors. The United States has no intention of conducting military operations on the territory of Ukraine and these forces will not even approach the front line, Rader emphasized.
When asked about possible concerns about the possible death of a US military advisor as a result of combat in Ukraine, Rader emphasized that they always recognize danger and take necessary precautions wherever their troops are located.
Currently, a small number of American military advisers work at the embassy in kyiv. They provide information and advice on topics such as support logistics, weapons supervision, etc.
Responding to suggestions that Ukraine could become a “second Vietnam” for the United States, Ryder noted that these are two completely different cases and confirmed that American troops do not train local forces on Ukrainian territory.
