In this case, the PSD president justified the choice of the independent 28-year-old Sebastian Bugalho by saying that he is a “talented young man” and is at times subversive.
“A talented young man, a young man whom the country knows, in some places even controversial, offensive, subversive, encouraging confrontation with democratic respect. He is an example of what we want: that it is worth being in Portugal, fighting for Portugal and going to Europe to defend the interests and colors of Portugal,” said Luis Montenegro, saying he is convinced that Bugalho “will play an important role in the next European elections.”
In the last European elections in June 2019, the SDP ran alone and achieved its worst result ever, with less than 22% of the vote, and elected six MEPs.
The University of Europe, along with the Summer University, which takes place at the end of August in Castelo de Vide (Portalegre), is one of two annual PSD initiatives aimed at political training for young people.
