The current member of the Finnish Parliament for the True Finns party, Timo Vornanen, was involved in a nighttime shooting and was arrested by law enforcement officials, Iltalehti newspaper reported on April 26, citing its sources.
The online publication Seiska reported that, according to several sources, Timo Vornanen, who is a civilian police officer, is suspected of aggravated assault and a firearm crime. According to Seiska, the weapon used was a legal weapon.
According to Iltalehti, the incident is so serious that the Prime Minister and President of Finland were informed of the incident and Timo Vornanen was arrested. Iltalehti also received information about the shooting from the police, which confirms that an investigation is underway into a shooting in central Helsinki, but does not confirm that the shooting is related to an officer.
The secretary of the True Finns party, Harri Vuorenpää, stated on the social network X that, according to the information received, a party deputy was involved in the incident that occurred in Helsinki. Basic Finlands President and Finance Minister Riikka Purra describes the situation to STT as “very serious”.
“I am very shocked by this situation. I am waiting for additional information. We did not reach the representative himself. The situation is very serious”.Purra told STT.
