A courier from telephone scammers, who worked for telephone scammers and took more than 1.8 million rubles from pensioners, was detained by employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kaliningrad region, the press service reported. from the department on April 26. on the official Internet portal.
As confirmed by the police, in March this year a 21-year-old resident of Kaliningrad took 1 million 873 thousand rubles from five elderly people between 80 and 90 years old. The victims received calls from unknown people who introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported the alleged involvement of their relatives in an accident.
The scammers told retirees that their family member was seriously injured in an accident and that they needed money to compensate for the damages and avoid starting a criminal case. The criminals convinced the pensioners to hand over the cash to the courier, and the deceived and excited elderly did so without asking questions. The courier kept 10% of the amount stolen from the affected citizens and transferred the remaining funds to certain accounts.
As a result of operational search activities, the identity of the courier was established and he was detained. Criminal cases have been initiated for fraud. The investigation is ongoing.
