The Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Benin, Chad, Jamaica and Kenya have formally notified the UN Secretary-General of their intention to contribute personnel to the international security force in Haiti, spokesman Antonio Guterres confirmed today.
A statement from Guterres’ spokesman indicated that other countries have expressed interest, including publicly, but have not yet notified the Secretary General of this intention.
The International Security Support Mission in Haiti, approved by the UN Security Council in October to support local police in the fight against organized crime gangs, now has $18 million (€16.8 million) in its trust fund.
