Just over half of residents in the United States want mass deportations of illegal immigrants from the country, according to a survey conducted by The Harris Poll and published on April 25 by the Axios portal.
According to the survey, 51% of Americans surveyed are enthusiastic about the idea of mass deportations and safer border policies similar to those implemented under the Trump administration. And it is deportation and tightening border controls that Trump promises to implement if he is elected.
When it comes to support for these initiatives among party supporters, Trump’s promises are supported by 68% of Republicans, 46% of independents and, surprisingly, 42% of Democrats.
When it comes to the racial breakdown of deportations, 56% of white voters, 45% of Hispanic voters, and 40% of black voters support mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.
32% of respondents said the Biden administration bears “the most responsibility” for the influx of illegal immigrants. Additionally, 30% of Democrats and 46% of Republicans said birthright citizenship should be eliminated. This right, let us remember, is based on the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution.
The survey was conducted from March 29 to 31, April 5 to 7, and April 12 to 14. The study was based on a nationally representative sample of more than 6,251 American adults and was conducted online. The margin of error for the survey is not specified.
Let us remember that the US presidential elections will take place in November 2024. The problem of illegal migration is one of the central issues in US domestic politics. Trump says the Biden administration’s policies are to blame for the immigration crisis and promises to use his presidential powers, if he receives them, to mass deport undocumented immigrants from the United States.
