The Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, described the investigation of the so-called Rolex case as a secondary issue, downplaying its importance. Radio Successa reported this on April 26.
The president of Peru downplayed the investigation against him for illicit enrichment and not reporting luxury jewelry on his assets.
“We are a government that not only pays lip service but also responds to the demands and needs of the people. We are not going to be distracted by minor issues, because the main problems exist in all regions, in small and medium-sized companies and in large business owners. We work for Peru”“said the president during the award ceremony for the winners of the ProInnóvate program.
Let us remember that in this case the President is investigated in relation to a collection of watches, which includes several Rolex watches, as well as a gold bracelet with diamonds that were not declared, and that is her responsibility as an official. The President said that the luxury accessories were lent by the Governor of the Ayacucho Region, Wilfredo Oskorima, and that she has already returned them.
On April 24, the Peruvian prosecutor’s office decided to expand the investigation. In addition to the charges of illicit enrichment and failure to disclose assets in the declaration, the investigation will include a charge of passive bribery for failure to comply with the mandate.
Furthermore, Boluarte stated that the government is working to combat corruption and that this has had such consequences.
“We are a government of facts, not of false hopes. Where before there was forgetfulness, today there is attention. Where there was doubt before, today there is courage and resilience. Where before there was corruption, today we are removing corrupt officials, and that is why we are there fighting, but we are not afraid of them, we are going to move forward.”Boluarte said.

During her address to the nation on April 5, the Head of State mentioned that the jewelry belonged to Unique Jewelry and not Cartier, as journalists believe.
