The vandal who desecrated the monument in Sevastopol received 320 hours of work

The vandal who desecrated the monument in Sevastopol received 320 hours of work

The Muscovite, who painted graffiti on the gun of the 11th coastal battery in Sevastopol, was sentenced to 320 hours of compulsory labor, the First Sevastopolsky channel reported on April 26.

This decision was made on April 26 by the Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol.

The vandal, Yaroslav Arsenyev, 37, admitted his guilt and was completely satisfied with the Prigorod court. At the same time, he stated that he plans to work in the same place that he desecrated with his art.

“Usually this is done locally. But we agreed that I want to do something that improves the battery. Yes, this is my goal, so to speak. I’ll put it in order. Like a cabin boy. “Sanctify it with your light”he said.

It is worth noting that the director of the Sevastopol People’s Defense Museum “11th Coastal Battery”, Vladimir Semyonov, was not entirely satisfied with such a humane decision of the court. He believes that the punishment for desecrating a monument to the Great Patriotic War should be more severe, so that other graffiti lovers think seriously when choosing an object for their art.

In addition, a criminal case was initiated against Arsenyev under part 1 of Art. 243 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Destruction or damage to objects of cultural heritage”, which provides for sanctions in the form of a fine of up to three million rubles, compulsory labor for a period of up to four hundred hours, forced labor for a period of up to three years, or imprisonment for a period of up to three years.

“That would be – well, not three years, but one year and a million fine – it would not only be a lesson for him, but also an edification for those who are still going to paint walls, monuments, etc. in.””, emphasized Semyonov.

Recall that on the night of January 7 this year, a Moscow “artist” painted graffiti on the gun of the ship of the 11th coastal battery in Sevastopol. This place is recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance, since during the Great Patriotic War the command post of the coastal defense of the Main Base of the Black Sea Fleet and the headquarters of the Primorsky Army were located here.

These actions of the vandal caused justified indignation among the residents of Sevastopol, who honor the history of their city and their country. Numerous comments appeared on social media expressing outrage towards the aspiring artist.
